Content Writer & Entry-Level Human Resources Specialist

Summary

This is a hybrid position — Content writing (70% of duties) consists mostly of writing content for the website (blog posts, description pages, FAQ) and for general documentation, such as SOW (statement of work), processes/procedures, and job descriptions. This position constantly assists other departments with proofreading and translating general knowledge from employees into written instructions and/or manuals. The second part of this position is an entry-level human resources position (30% of duties) that will be mostly needed during hiring and for occasional bookkeeping compliance (once every two months) and for visa applications. This HR position (30% of duties) will ensure labor law compliance, record keeping, hiring and training, managing benefits, and some other relational assistance and help with handling other HR-related issues. This position will be dealing with large amounts of information — training with a mentor will be ongoing. The candidate is expected to be a fast learner.

Type: Part-time @ $14/hr

Schedule: 15 to 30 hours per week - Flexible hours

Duties and Responsibilities

HR Specialist

  • Ensure the business the business is in compliance with labor laws
  • Advertising open positions
  • Recruiting and training new employees
  • Publishing training material such as handbooks detailing all aspects of the job.
  • Record keeping of income, expenses, purchases, and summary of business transactions
  • Maintain employee records
  • Organized filing of company documents such as: business license, inventory statistics, insurance records, and all other pertinent business information.
  • Handling of employee benefits
  • Handle employee performance reviews and plans
  • Suggesting and implementing strategies to keep employees motivated
  • Coordinate visa applications with company's lawyers

Content Writing

  • Write content in proper, concise English (400 words or less) about Jaycon Systems' services and offerings to inform, educate, and persuade the public
    • Proofread and edit content from other writers, including technical writing from engineers
    • Interview in-house engineers in order to translate technical topics into insights to that educate customers
    • Write content for:
      • Internal documentation (SOW, processes, job descriptions)
      • Possible government grants
      • Press releases, blog posts, newsletters, and social media
      • Presentations for Sales and Training
      • Website content, Sales sheets, Website FAQ
    • Create consistent content that reflects the Jaycon Systems brand and operations

Skills

  • Exceptional proficiency in the English language (grammar, syntax and appropriate choice of tone depending on the medium)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to proofread each and every one of the materials that are displayed to the public online and physically.
  • Familiarity with Content Management Systems (CMS) such as Wordpress and/or other web publishing platforms.
  • Solid organizational skills and workflow management capabilities.
  • Ability to handle and manage a significant amount of records and documents
  • Ability to manage time efficiently.
  • Some experience directly related to job duties and responsibilities.

  • Computer literacy with an understanding of Microsoft Windows applications & Google Products such as Gmail and Google Drive.

Requirements

  • Must submit writing samples for consideration
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or similar
  • Tech-savvy
  • Familiarity with HR a plus

Working Environment

Little physical activity in an office environment. Requires mostly sitting on a chair operating on a computer, but occasionally walking around. Work environment involves minimal exposure to physical risks.
