Summary
The intern will assist the electrical engineer with the design, development, testing, and manufacturing of electronic circuits for customer based projects, as well as for the Jaycon Systems online store products. In addition, they will help troubleshoot electronic systems and assemble PCBs.
Type: Unpaid Internship with a possibility of paid part employment upon completion
Duration: 90 days from start date
Schedule: 20 hours/week - Flexible schedule
Location: 801 E Hibiscus Blvd, Melbourne, FL 32901
Duties and Responsibilities
- PCB Design
- Prototype circuit for testing
- Design schematic circuit using Eagle
- Meet with CAD Engineer to discuss design layout (if necessary)
- Design PCB layout
- Order PCB through Fishbowl
- Testing
- Assemble PCB (if necessary)
- Create a testing procedure to ensure correct performance of the circuit
- Troubleshooting
- In case the circuit does not work as expected, find the issue and fix it
- Modify design files as needed (if required)
- Manufacturing
- Soldering components into circuit boards
- Assembly of finished boards into their respective casing
- Assist pick and place manager to run the equipment
Skills
- Circuit design / Prototyping skills
- Familiarity with Eagle CAD
- Familiarity with C/C++ language
- Ability to interpret datasheets of electronic components
- Ability to use weller solder iron and hot air machine
- Ability to operate oscilloscopes and power supplies
- Troubleshooting skills
- Good understanding of electrical health and safety regulations
- Familiarity of Google Products such as Gmail, Google Drive, Google Sheets, Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Calendar (equivalent to Microsoft’s Excel, Word, PPT, and Outlook)
- Attention to detail and problem solving skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team
- Ability to manage time efficiently
- Ability to learn new things fast
Requirements
- Currently pursuing Electrical or Computer Engineering or similar at an accredited University
- Highly skilled with computers
- Solid understanding of the fundamentals of electric circuits
- Familiarity with PCB design, microprocessors, sensors, wireless technology and embedded systems
- Background in technical writing
- Must have reliable transportation
- Great work ethic
- Familiarity in the Manufacturing and/or Electronics industries a plus
- Must be available for 20 hours per week
Working Environment
Little physical activity in a calm, office-like environment with no dress code. The position requires to be sitting down operating a computer most of the time. Occasionally, it is necessary to walk back and forth from your station to the testing and assembly areas. Work environment involves the risk of getting burned when using the weller solder iron and/or the hot air machine.
Relationships
Reports to: Electrical Engineer
Works closely with: Senior Engineer, CAD Engineer, Quality Supervisor
Occasionally interacts with: Firmware Programmer, Operations Manager
