Mechanical Engineering Intern

Summary

Assists with the development of innovative new consumer products from (1) concept to (2) prototyping to (3) mass manufacturing through the delivery of both technical drawing packages and physical prototypes for testing. Applies user experience principles, ensuring products are not only user friendly, but are also designed for manufacturability and assembly process is as streamlined and efficient as possible.

Type: Unpaid Internship with a possibility of paid part employment upon completion

Duration: 90 days from start date

Schedule: 20 hours/week - Flexible

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Uses conceptual design and 3D CAD modeling to design products that meet the objective of the project proposal.
  • Performs design validation testing of prototypes and off-tool samples, proposing design modifications to guarantee manufacturing efficiency and compliance with technical specifications.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing Mechanical Engineering or similar at an accredited University
  • Must have own laptop with Solidworks Student Edition
  • Experience with consumer products and user experience.
  • CNC machining experience
  • Knowledge of Solidworks, AutoCad, or similar.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite is a plus.
  • 3D Design and Drafting experience
  • Must be available for 20 hours per week

Working Environment

Low physical activity. Requires sitting for most of the time. May require exposure to chemicals due to prototyping materials such as epoxy and synthetic clay.

Reports to: Project Manager

Works closely with: Mechanical Engineer, Global Sourcing Specialists, Industrial Designer

Performance Metrics

Position’s performance is based on:

  1. Completing projects in timely manner
  2. Completeness and detail of CAD files
  3. Accuracy of quality control checks
